PIA PETERSEN

Pia Petersen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she declared to her parents at the precocious age of seven that she would become a writer. When she was sixteen, Petersen left for a year in Greece. She returned to Denmark, only to leave shortly thereafter for France. She hardly spoke a word of French upon her arrival in Paris, but she studied Stendhal on her own with a dictionary in hand while scraping by. Petersen then enrolled in courses at the Sorbonne where she began to study philosophy and French at the same time.

Pia Petersen est née à Copenhague, au Danemark, où elle a déclaré à ses parents à l’âge précoce de 7 ans qu’elle serait écrivain. Lorsqu’elle n’avait que 16 ans, elle est partie pour la Grèce où elle a passé un an. Elle est retournée au Danemark, mais elle est repartie très peu de temps après pour se rendre en France. Elle ne parlait pas un mot de Français lors de son arrivée à Paris, mais elle s’est mise à étudier l’œuvre de Stendhal toute seule avec un dictionnaire à la main, tout en essayant de s’en sortir sans argent. Ensuite, Pia Petersen s’est inscrite à la Sorbonne où elle a simultanément suivi des cours de philosophie et de langue française.

After a move to Marseille and an adventure as owner of a café/bookstore in this port city in the south of France, she decided it was time to begin writing. The result was her first novel, Jeu de la facilité (2000). She followed this book with a second literary creation, Parfois il discutait avec Dieu (2004), published by Actes Sud. Another five novels have come out with this publishing house, including Une fenêtre au hasard (2006), Passer le pont (2007), Iouri (2008), Une livre de chair (2008), and the highly acclaimed Un écrivain, un vrai (2013) that was the subject of a special dossier in the March 2014 edition of the Parisian literary journal Atelier du roman. The prolific author has also published Le chien de Don Quichotte (2012) and Mon nom est Dieu (2014). Petersen currently divides her time between Marseille and Paris, when she’s not traveling the world.

Après un déménagement à Marseille où elle est devenue propriétaire d’un café-librairie, elle a décidé qu’il était temps de commencer à écrire. Le résultat a été son premier roman, Jeu de la facilité (2000). Cette publication a été suivie par un deuxième ouvrage littéraire, Parfois il discutait avec Dieu (2004), publié chez Actes Sud. Cinq autres romans ont paru dans cette maison d’édition : Une fenêtre au hasard (2006), Passer le pont (2007), Iouri (2008), Une livre de chair (2008) et Un écrivain, un vrai (2013), sujet d’un dossier spécial de la revue Atelier du roman en mars 2014. Pia Petersen passe son temps entre Marseille et Paris lorsqu’elle n’est pas en train de voyager à travers le monde.
